A NEW NBA FASHION TEAM: THE FANTASIES

By Gabriela Gil Rueda

Advisory Board Crystals, also known as “ABC,” just launched today at 11 am EST on their website their new apparel capsule in collaboration with the NBA, breaking 90’s sport stereotypes.

The collection features different types of vintage clothes that we’ve seen in the late 80s and early 90s. The main fabrics are taffeta, cotton, quilted, wool, and flannel, which give an old school vibe. There is a lot of embroidery going on, naming the brand and the NBA. On most of the pieces, including accessories, there is a pattern which is stars, mainly because basketball players are the stars of the show when the game is on. The colorful stars give a sense of childhood and fun.

As any fashion capsule, they also have accessories like necklaces made out of colorful beans and retro oval-shaped sunglasses. There’s also bean bags perfect to fit all your clothes if you are going on a two-day trip, like most basketball players do when they are going to play a game.

The brand uses recycled fabric for most of their clothes, and that aligns well with their values. As they stated, they want to approach fashion with a philosophical mindset, bringing the consumption of marijuana and basketball players together without it being a taboo topic for 2023.

The Funky Rock collection by Alexander Wang

A glimpse of the resort 2024 men’s collection of Alexander Wang

The new Alexander Wang resort ’24 men’s collection was inspired by the Rocco Duffel bag, which was released in 2009. The collection was released via Vogue. The iconic bag is instantly recognizable by its leather texture and its thick rock brass studs at the bottom of the bag. “When people started asking me for the Rocco again, I said, ‘Are we really there yet? Are we back here?'” Wang stated at a showroom visit by Vogue.

This collection was eagerly anticipated by fashion enthusiasts worldwide, and Alexander Wang did not disappoint with its release on October 24th in a private showroom. The buzz surrounding the brand’s decision to feature the collection at the beginning of 2024 in prominent locations like Las Vegas and Vancouver is palpable. Wang is undoubtedly making a captivating comeback with a unique and edgy rock street style of clothing that is turning heads.

One of the notable aspects of the collection is the playfulness and creativity in the selection of textures and fabrics. From leather and denim to silk and sequins, each piece showcases a different material, adding an exciting complexity to the overall aesthetic. However, despite the diverse range of materials, the collection manages to maintain a sense of cohesion, reflecting Wang’s keen eye for blending unconventional styles seamlessly.

The underlying message behind this collection is crystal clear: it seamlessly combines rock and chic elements, reinventing them for the contemporary wearer. It signifies Wang’s ability to embrace the rebellious spirit of rock fashion while infusing it with a modern twist, perfectly encapsulating the essence of street style in the 21st century.

With its bold designs and unconventional choices, this collection is set to redefine fashion norms and inspire individuals to express their individuality through their clothing. Alexander Wang has once again proven his reputation as a visionary designer, and fashion enthusiasts around the world eagerly await the opportunity to experience this cutting-edge collection firsthand.

Don’t forget to mark your calendar for the fashion showcase in early 2024 and get ready to witness the harmonious blend of rock and chic that Alexander Wang has masterfully crafted.

As we said before, the Rocco Bag made a comeback with this collection, but as an inspiration. In most of the looks, the brass studs make an appearance. Metallic textures like coin chains are something we’ve been seeing for a while within the rock industry, but not that often on the runway. Some of the outfits use the chains as bracelets or as decor for your pants, which is an interesting but fun way of using that accessory. This collection is all about making a comeback because there is some cow fur print on the caps and jackets, giving a cool impression. For Queen fans, this look will be perfect for Freddie Mercury to wear on a daily basis. It is not an extravagant look, but the accessories complement the look and make it more “rock and roll”.

If you are someone who likes street style but also has to go to work with a formal look, this collection is perfect for you. If there is an important meeting, you can take off the chains and hats and keep on the belts, and your look will be “Financial District” appropriate. But if you have a plan with friends after work, just put on the accessories, maybe a bag, and you will look cool, plus it is winter appropriate.
